It is the temporality of the game, that experience of fascination and invention that escapes the logic of efficiency and productivity. Money, for its part, enters into Gandolfo's stories in a conflicting way: when work and play do not go hand in hand, that is, when an artisanal ethic is not manifested, work appears associated with lack and play with waste. La narrativa de Elvio E. Gandolfo hace del trabajo uno de sus núcleos primordiales, ya sea porque insiste en su representación o porque se piensa a sí misma desde la óptica anacrónica de lo artesanal. Intempestiva, la artesanía instaura otro régimen del tiempo: un tiempo autónomo, un tiempo propio no sujeto al del resto del mundo. Es el tiempo del juego, esa experiencia de fascinación e invención que escapa de las lógicas de la eficiencia y la productividad. El dinero, por su parte, entra de manera conflictiva en los relatos de Gandolfo: cuando trabajo y juego no van de la mano, es decir, cuando no se manifiesta una ética artesanal, el trabajo aparece asociado a la carencia y el juego, al derroche.
