To study these matters we will make a double movement. First, we focus on Saer’s texts, analyzing confluences and tensions with the architext of crime fiction. Afterwards, we examine how these active uses of the genre can be considered a tactical operation regarding the mass culture of its time. The relationship between these two movements reveals that these texts can be read in relation to the Paulin- Mathurin affair. The establishment and nature of this dialogue is an intellectual stand in respect to the constitution of identity between America and Europe, a political move towards otherness, and an intervention of the Argentinian literary canon.  En el artículo se investigan relaciones entre la cultura de masas y La pesquisa (1994) y “Recepción en Baker Street” (2000) de Juan José Saer. Este acercamiento resulta necesario, al ser estos los únicos policiales en la obra de un autor refractario a la industria cultural. Esta cuestión se abordará a partir de un movimiento doble. Primero, recorremos los textos analizando tensiones con el architexto del género policial. Luego, vemos cómo este uso activo del género puede implicar, a su vez, una operación táctica con la cultura de masas de la época. El acercamiento entre estos dos movimientos revela que estas obras pueden leerse en diálogo con el caso Paulin-Mathurin. La elaboración de este diálogo implica un posicionamiento intelectual con respecto a la constitución de la identidad entre América y Europa, una apuesta política sobre la otredad y una intervención en el canon literario argentino.
