Sumario:This paper addresses, first, the category of anocracy as a way of overcoming different obstacles (theoretical, epistemic, methodological) within the characterizations that have historically been made about the Colombian political regime and system. The notional alternatives available today suggest that they are still trapped in obsolete, anachronistic and reductive categories that would require a thorough revision of their usefulness and plausibility by means of complex approaches. Secondly, a typification of what anocracy is (and could be) as a form of government based on a theoretical-empirical-historical synthesis based on the paradigmatic and demonstrative case of Colombia (1948-2022) is presented. A third section aims to account for one of the special mechanisms, although not exclusive of the anocratic condition: the states of exception pre- and post-the (new) Political Constitution issued in 1991, since this legal figure turns out to be both a way and a guide within the anocratic evolution for the Colombian case.
