The threads that link Freud’s speculation to both the contemporary European debate marked by Kultur-Zivilisation dualism and to Hobbes’ ideas expressed in Leviathan are highlighted. The issues of social relations and how they are established, of sovereignty and its genesis through the original killing up to the forms in which power manifests itself today, as well as the social contract structure that turns out to be intrinsically and constitutively a source of conflict, are addressed and widely discussed. In the conclusions, the discourse addresses the questions raised by the transformation of power into “communication” and medium. A través de tres palabras clave –lenguaje, cultura, autoengaño– el artículo aborda el tema del malestar en la cultura desde un punto de vista estrictamente filosófico. Se destacan las líneas que vinculan la especulación de Freud con el debate europeo contemporáneo marcado por el dualismo Kultur-Zivilisation como las ideas de Hobbes expresadas en Leviatán. Se abordan y discuten ampliamente los temas de las relaciones sociales y su constitución, la soberanía y su génesis a través del asesinato originario a formas en que el poder se manifiesta hoy en día, así como la estructura del contrato social que se revela intrínseca y constitutivamente generadora de conflicto. En las conclusiones, el discurso se abre a cuestiones planteadas por la transformación del poder en “comunicación” y medio.
