Sumario:This article is based on the intertwined notions of city/communication/culture, to explore the daily spatial practices in the Mercado Norte and its surroundings, looking into the subjects and the use, appropriation and reappropriation of this space that has become a “Superblock” in Córdoba, a capital city immersed in a process of strategic beautification and touristification, intensified post-pandemic. At first, the theoretical/analytical perspective from which the city is observed is presented; to then detail the field background and the history of the social space object of this study. Afterwards the methodology articulated in two moments is presented: an analysis of the representation of space through a qualitative content analysis of an official publication of the municipality; and an approximation to the social practices of space through semi-structured observations. Subsequently, the main characteristics of the representation of space analyzed and a synthesis of the spatial practices observed are presented. To conclude, the characteristics of the representation of the “Superblock” are related to the spatial practices therein, seeking to put both dimensions in dialogue and tension; attending at the same time to the trends in urbanization, beautification and tourism, both locally and globally.
