Sumario:The present article proposes a debate concerning communication and development, specially questioning their conceptual and historic relations. The text is based on a doctoral inquiry, concluded in 2022, which implied a theoretical and analytical reconstruction of development doctrines and their perspectives regarding communication.Parting from such a task, this proposal intends to stress the logics of development with those of human communication, considering that the first implies unfolding something defined beforehand, and intimately related to value. The second, understood as a process with no guaranties, thus, a “project”.Therefore, at first it presents the subordination relationship that these concepts have had in time, and then presents two conceptual nodes that have articulated them: i) development and communication articulated by technical advance; ii) development and communication articulated by participation and consensus. These axes are critically interrogated, recurring to the communication/culture perspective (Schmucler, 1997) and other Latin-American theories (Martín-Barbero, 1987, 2015); lookingforward to build the conditions for enunciating the intimate bond wehave diagnosed between development and capitalist production, but also the theoretical and political limitations it implies for thecommunication field.
