Sumario:Within the framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics, the Theory of Appraisal will be used to analyze the feelings communicated by one of Shakespeare's sonnets to the dark lady. Appraisal Theory is the most appropriate because it studies the representation of feelings in discourse. The purpose of this paper is to look into the interpersonal meanings of the chosen sonnet and observe how attitudes are negotiated, following Martin and Rose (2003).The appreciative resources used in the poem will be analyzed to see how values are assigned and readers aligned with them. Also, the way in which attitudes are emphasized, softened or graded will be studied, together with the sources that project them and modality, all of which create the prosody of the text.
