Sumario:The aim of this paper is to show, under a pragmatic-cognitive-prototypical approach, that the forms todavía / aún / aun (T/A/A) are used as linguistic reinforcement marks of epistemic modality and evidentiality. On the basis of corpus data from doctoral theses on Archeology and Linguistics and through a mixed methodology (quantitative and qualitative), we identified certain lexico-grammatical and semantic-discursive correspondences between the epistemic modality and evidentiality expression alternatives and the presence or absence of the forms T/A/A. The doctoral thesis genre, whatever discipline it addresses, is characterized by the presence of these rhetorical strategies to support the writers’ claims. Our analysis demonstrates that the presence of the forms T/A/A is significant and that when the speaker uses them reflexively they behave as effective linguistic resources to express subjectivity and make the speaker’s intention more transparent.
