Sumario:The notion of aspect in Spanish grammar studies constitutes a controversial notion that has gone through different stages ranging from its denial as a functional category in the verb inflections in Spanish, at the beginning of the 20th century, to its introduction in the New RAE Grammar, at the beginning of the 21st century, as a component independent from that of Time. The article offers an explanatory tour on the consideration of the aspect as a phenomenon configured through a composition of features in the lexicon, the syntactic derivation of the sentence constituents, and the different phenomena of interface between the levels of the language to produce sentences whose aspectuality is relevant to the organization of discursive types such as narration. Thus, the hierarchical configuration of aspect allows the link among the different interface levels of Grammar with discourse.
