Sumario:Founded on the concept of historical imagination, a Lezamian re-reading and reinterpretation of colonial art in the twentieth century in the American expression essays, published in 1957, represents a gesture of resistance to cultural domination from the view of an artistic interpretation which ?at the same time? provides scenes of American drama in the origin of its culture.Based on the aforementioned Lezama Lima’s essays, this paper aims to highlight the baroque mode attributed to the construction of expression and genuine figure of the artist, factors on which the Cuban creates an authentic American identity. Significant issues considering that the aesthetic-cultural proposals of the author become the germinal point of many identity-construction operations developed in literary discourse in the last two decades.
