The main objective is fixed on the critical analysis of the classical concept of “fantastic”, as provided by Tzvetan Todorov and Rosemary Jackson in their studies on the subject, to consider other concepts that are not deviated from the literary field and to approach the topic from the fields of analytical psychology, philosophy and metaphysics. That is why the main focus of this work is not about the inner workings of genre and its productions -task already done by that critic named above- but it will explore other possible ways of understanding the “spirit” that moves the production of such texts. The work will be focused particularly on some of the works of Carl G. Jung, Henry Corbin and Karl Jaspers that deal with the problem of fantasy and imagination. In our view, these works can help us to enrich our understanding of fantastic literature -as well as other forms of art which production can be defined in some degree through this term- in a broader context: the human cultural productions. En el siguiente trabajo intentaremos abordar el complejo tema de la literatura fantástica y su especificidad. El objetivo principal estará fijado en la problematización del concepto clásico de “lo fantástico” -según lo aportado por Tzvetan Todorov y Rosemary Jackson en sus estudios sobre el tema- para poner en juego otras concepciones que se alejan de lo estrictamente literario y tratan el tema desde la psicología profunda, la filosofía y la metafísica. Es por esto que el trabajo no tendrá como eje el funcionamiento interno del género y sus producciones -tarea finamente realizada por el citado crítico- sino que explorará otras posibles formas de comprender el “espíritu” que mueve la producción de este tipo de textos. Se trataran particularmente ciertos planteos presentes en las obras de Carl G.
