Sumario:This paper deals with the relationship between folk music and nationalism in Argentina, which took place at the beginning of the 20th century, through the analysis of Leopoldo Corretjer’s Cantos escolares. These scores belong to the Colección Digital Biblioteca Criolla of Ibero-American Institute in Berlin (Germany), collected by Robert Lehmann-Nitsche in the inter-century, and consist of songs for piano and voice, that have an art compositional affiliation and, at the same time, refer to folklore. In addition, significant changes in school education during the first decade of the 20th century are examined through other documentary sources. A reflection is proposed that weighs the situation of the teaching of music in the school environment and the concern for the conformation of a national identity.
