Sumario:Sedimentology, as well as other disciplines of Earth Sciences, began its development during the first half of the twentieth century, and displayed a vertiginous growth since the second half of that century. These advances occurred especially in countries of the northern hemisphere (United States, Canada and Western European countries), as well as in Argentina. In order to contextualize the progress of Sedimentology in our country, firstly a synthesis about the main international protagonists and events that took place at the international level until the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s is presented. Later the main milestones reached by Sedimentology in Argentina are chronologically detailed until the present times, highlighting the role of pioneers in the discipline. The study shows the importance of academic institutions, national agencies and companies, scientific societies, and the creation of research groups in different regions of our territory. It is also highlighted the impact of successive meetings and scientific events, several of them with international repercussion, as well as the efforts of our researchers in the publication of original contributions and specific texts.
