Sumario:This contribution aims to highlight the contributions made in the field of the history of the geology of Argentina and thereby to pay tribute to its authors. The study of the history of geology is closely linked to the characteristics of the same discipline, both in terms of its objectives and its methodology. Perhaps that is why most of those who have dealt with the subject have come from the field of geology. In many cases this has resulted in analyzes that highlighted the advances in geological knowledge over time. Exceptionally, the evaluation has been extended to the intellectual, social, political and economic context that conditioned them. In the first half of the twentieth century there were few contributions, of leading researchers and university professors, such as F. Pastore, P. Groeber, T. García Castellanos and H. H. Camacho. From the 1960s onwards, the activity was enhanced by the start of the Argentine Geological Conferences or Congresses, which in their Proceedings began to include historical syntheses, generally written by request, aimed at showing the progress of geological knowledge, general or local, over time. Already in the 21st century, historical studies in the field of geology acquired a greater dimension with the beginning of the Argentine Congress on the history of geology, which to date amount to five. In them, the work has focused on the analysis of the development of studies, either in specific fields of the discipline, or in certain institutions or by prominent personalities. An increasing number of geologists have contributed to them, whose interest in the subject has also been reflected in other contributions.
