The city called Santiago del Estero is the most important urban, political, administrative, financial, and service provider center of the province. It underwent processes of transformation and expansion that affected its surroundings, generating a dynamic peri-urbanarea. The main objective of this work is to characterize the southern peri-urban area of the city of Santiago del Estero, which presents itself with the diverse territorial transformations. The urban and rural geography, and the sociology contributed to the subject of this work. The locational-quantitative perspectives, perception, behavior and criticism allowed the development of a varied exploratory and descriptive methodology, with office and field work. The survey and preparation of a database, analysis and interpretation of statisticalinformation, satellite images, application of surveys, interviews, preparation of thematic maps, allowed the systematization and analysis of the information that led to differentiating areas, distinguishing the perception of inhabitants, and identify tensions. The lots, private neighborhoods, sports facilities, farms, residences of new inhabitants, cemeteries, among others, show the changes in land uses. There is also continued existence of rural homes, farms with crops and livestock, fallow or with natural vegetation. The expansive advance of the city has a greater presence in the immediate surroundings and following the circulation axes and local roads, determining a particular morphology. In this process, rural towns such as El Zanjón, Santa María, Vuelta de la Barranca are incorporated into the rhythms of the city. Inhabitants of this area see these changes as positive, social actors consider them appropriate and challenge them in various aspects. It is also presented as a space of tensions in socio-environmental issues. The objective and subjective is a contribution to the diagnosis and a tool for territorial planning. |

La ciudad de Santiago del Estero es el centro urbano, político, administrativo, financiero, proveedor de servicios más importante de la provincia de Santiago del Estero. Sufrió procesos de transformación y expansión que afectaron a su entorno, generando un periurbanodinámico. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo principal caracterizar el periurbano sur de la ciudad de Santiago del Estero, que se presenta con transformaciones territoriales diversas. La geografía urbana, rural y la sociología aportaron a la construcción del marco teórico. Las perspectivas locacional-cuantitativa, de la percepción y el comportamiento y la crítica permitieron el desarrollo de una metodología exploratoria y descriptiva variada, con trabajo de gabinete y campo. La realización de relevamiento y elaboración de base de datos, análisis e interpretación de información estadística, de imágenes satelitarias, aplicación de encuestas, entrevistas, de elaboración de cartografías, permitieron la sistematización y análisis de la información que llevaron diferenciar áreas, distinguir la percepción de habitantes, identificar tensiones. Los loteos, barrios privados, predios deportivos, fincas, residencias de nuevos habitantes, cementerios, entre otros, dan cuenta de los cambios en los usos del suelo. También hay permanencias, de viviendas rurales, predios con cultivo y cría de ganado, en barbecho o con vegetación natural. El avance expansivo de la ciudad tiene mayor presencia en el entorno inmediato y siguiendo los ejes de circulación y caminos vecinales, determinando una morfología particular. En este proceso se produce la incorporación de poblados rurales, como El Zanjón, Santa María, Vuelta de la Barranca, a los ritmos de la ciudad. Habitantes de la zonaadvierten a estos cambios como positivos, actores sociales los consideran oportunos y los interpela en diversos aspectos. También se presenta como un espacio de tensiones encuestiones socio ambientales. La mirada objetiva y subjetiva, es un aporte al diagnóstico y una herramienta para el ordenamiento territorial.
