Sumario:The primary aim of this investigation is to analyze the pre- and post-Hispanic landscapes of La Cueva Gorge (Jujuy) through toponymy. This article presents the results obtained on the identification and location in varied cartography of multiple place names in Quechua, Kunza, and Spanish, their ethnolinguistic analysis, and the establishment of spatial relationships with the gorge’s archaeological sites (pre-Hispanic and post-Hispanic) and current localities. We direct special attention to the study of toponyms that refer to potential animal, plant, mineral, and water resources, as well as events and/or social facts. We consider that this study allows us to better understand the use of this landscape and the social process of its appropriation by the social actors who live and have lived or circulated there. Furthermore, we achieved a greater understanding of different languages and, therefore, of the different societies that would have inhabited the sector throughout its extensive occupational history.
