Sumario:Over an individual’s life, bones undergo changes, which can leave marks on bone tissue and are of interest to bioarchaeological studies. These changes manifest themselves in a series of bone traits that constitute a potential line of evidence to inquire about past populations’ lifestyles. However, when analyzing such alterations, it is necessary to consider a wide variety of taphonomic agents and processes that can mimic morphological features produced by pathological conditions and injuries of a non-pathological nature. These are the so-called pseudopathological alterations, and their origin can be due to both natural and anthropogenic factors, past and present. This paper will focus on a particular type of alteration, porosity, to establish specific criteria to recognize the nature of this lesion to contribute to its correct identification and to be able to carry out a differential diagnosis.
