| Sumario: | This presentation proposes an initial approach, through experimental work, to the study of some potential functions that lithic artifacts could play in the production of copper and gold in metals from metallurgical contexts in northwestern Argentina. In the first instance, artifacts were made by experimental knapping following the morphological and lithological characteristics present in the Rincón Chico 15 metallurgical workshop, belonging to the Late Period. In the second instance, an experimental program of activities was planned in order to reproduce the tasks of rolling, deformation and polishing that were recorded in different types of ornamental pieces of copper and gold from the archaeological record of northwestern Argentina. Finally, the functional study of microscopic basis of experimental and archaeological artifacts allowed us to start developing a reference collection and a database associating certain morphologies, potential functions performed and microscopic traces generated. |
