description This paper reconstructs the trajectory of a little-known author in the history of sociology in Argentina: Guillermo Alfredo Terrera. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that, despite the loss of centrality of the so-called “chair sociology” in Argentina in the stage that opens after 1957, this tradition maintained its validity in a good part of the practitioners of sociology, especially in the Interior of the country. For this reason, the meaning of dealing with a sociologist considered marginal to the Argentine sociological mainstream has to do with the fact that his social properties can account for the survival of the group of “traditional sociologists”, who continued to participate in the teaching of the discipline in national universities, at least until the 1980s. After outlining some methodological aspects that guide the research and listing the characteristics of the so-called “chair sociology”, the article focuses on reconstructing the circulation spaces of Terrera to, finally, investigate some central aspects of his sociological perspective embodied in his most important works dedicated to the subject. Finally, the conclusions raise the relevance of investigating these “anachronistic ways” of teaching the discipline, given their importance in the dissemination of social science in spaces outside the professional training of Argentine sociologists today.

Este trabajo reconstruye la trayectoria de un autor poco conocido de la historia de la sociología en Argentina: Guillermo Alfredo Terrera. El objetivo del artículo es demostrar que, a pesar de la pérdida de centralidad de la llamada “sociología de cátedra” en Argentina en la etapa que se abre luego de 1957, esta tradición mantuvo su vigencia en buena parte de los practicantes de la sociología, sobre todo del Interior del país. Por este motivo, el sentido de ocuparse de un sociólogo considerado marginal para el mainstream sociológico argentino tiene que ver con que sus propiedades sociales pueden dar cuenta de la pervivencia del grupo de “sociólogos tradicionales”, el cual siguió participando de la enseñanza de la disciplina en las universidades nacionales, por lo menos hasta la década de 1980. Luego de esbozar algunos aspectos metodológicos que guían la investigación y de enumerar las características de la llamada “sociología de cátedra”, el artículo se centra en reconstruir los espacios de circulación de Terrera para, finalmente, indagar en algunos aspectos centrales de su perspectiva sociológica plasmada en sus obras más importantes dedicadas a la materia. Por último, las conclusiones plantean la relevancia de investigar estas “formas anacrónicas” de enseñar la disciplina, dada su importancia en la divulgación de la ciencia social en espacios ajenos a la formación profesional de los sociólogos argentinos en la actualidad.
