Sumario:The article proposes a set of factors for which recently Águeda Noriega (b. 1974), at the beginning of the new millennium, is the first Peruvian artist dedicated professionally as a cartoonist. Due to the same factors, Águeda is also the creator of the first female character in the comic strip Alter Ego. For this, it is exposed how the male professionalization of the Peruvian comic strip and the invisibility of women occurred; then, the characteristic features of her female protagonists according to the comic genres that she develops; the contribution of political humor and her work in the press, concluding with a study of Alter Ego. The methodology used has consisted of conducting a review of the presence of women in studies on the history of engraving and Peruvian comics; and in analyzing her female characters, in particular Alter ego, as self-positioned works of art following the proposal of Deleuze and Guattari in their well-known essay What is philosophy? (1993) on thought, sensations, and art. All this in dialogue with an interview with the author (2021).
