Sumario:In January 2022, an environmental disaster caused by an oil spill on the Peruvian coast, impacted the region's biodiversity and caused problems for the communities involved. The aim of the study was to determine the correlation between the perception of the risk of the oil spill and mental health in artisanal fishermen from the periphery of the Callao region. A total of 131 fishermen participated (44 women and 87 men), with a mean age of 45.25 and SD = 14.59. Mental health was assessed with the DASS-21, while for the other variable an instrument was created that met the standards of psychometric properties. In the results it was found that both variables correlate directly with each other as well as within their dimensions. It is concluded that the higher the perception of oil spill risk, the more affected is the mental health of the fishermen in the evaluated area.
