Sumario:Emotional intelligence has been highlighted as a useful personal resource. However, in Portugal, few instruments assess this construct in teachers. Considering that the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS) is a scale with good psychometric properties that assesses the perception of emotional intelligence, the present study aimed to analyze the psychometric properties of the WLEIS in Portuguese teachers. A total of 835 primary and secondary school teachers from public schools participated in the study. The WLEIS and job satisfaction scales were applied. Statistical analysis using the SPSS/AMOS 25 program indicated adequate internal consistency and a positive and statistically significant association with job satisfaction. The results provide evidence that the WLEIS is a valid scale to assess the perception of emotional intelligence in Portuguese teachers, as well as their respective emotional capacities.
