| Sumario: | Although it only affects a small proportion of people, Internet gaming disorder has been associated with numerous negative variables. The objective of the present work was to synthesize the empirical evidence available on the relationship between Internet gaming disorder and loneliness. A search was performed in the PsycINFO, Scopus and ERIC databases, recovering 35 articles and 42 independent samples. The meta-analysis comprised 44,140 participants, in which PUI was correlated with loneliness r = 0.28 (p < .001). The publication bias and sensitivity analyses showed the robustness of the results found. Potential moderating variables were evaluated. Limitations of the study were discussed. The present meta-analysis contributes to a better understanding of the association between Internet gaming disorder and loneliness. |
