In this sense, the article explores the experience of freedom of the afro-porteños. El presente artículo forma parte de un proyecto de investigación sobre los afrodescendientes de Buenos Aires durante el siglo XVII: la trata negrera, las formas de vida, la religión y la cultura. Para realizarlo se han revisado los primeros 25 tomos (el lapso 1600-1640) de las Escribanías Antiguas (1584-1756), en el Archivo General de la Nación, en Buenos Aires, en especial testamentos y cartas de libertad otorgados durante el período. Se exploran así las diferentes modalidades que adoptó la manumisión de esclavos porteños.   Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades.
