Sumario:This paper integrates a project of investigation of the African people of Buenos Aires during the seventeenth century: the process of forced migration, ways of living, religion and culture. The firsts 25 volumes (the period 1600-1640) of the Escribanías Antiguas (1584-1756) have seen revised at the Archivo General dela Nación, inBuenos Aires, especially the wills and the manumission of the slaves. In this sense, the article explores the experience of freedom of the afro-porteños.
