Los profesionales de las Ciencias de la Salud han sabido portar las medicinas o el instrumental en un maletín, generalmente de cuero, de color negro o marrón, que ha disminuido o casi perdido en la actualidad, su significado, utilidad y sentido alegórico.Sin embargo, su origen se pierde en la noche de los tiempos. El shaman-hombre medico; hechicero o mago de las sociedades primitivas, portaba en su bolsa una serie de piezas rituales que le permitían disipar el temor entre sus congéneres, así como inspirar o restaurar la confianza.Generalmente las habilidades humanas y en casi todas las profesiones, necesitan estar apoyadas por elementos materiales, naturales o industriales, que deben ser arreglados y acondicionados para su transporte y posterior utilización.La pre historia y luego la historia revelan que, según la región y la época, los diferentes elementos fueron acondicionados en sacos, bolsas, cajas, maletines; alforjas o cofres.La transición desde la primitiva talega al maletín, se hizo mediante una transformación evolutiva a través de varios siglos.
