| Sumario: | Introduction: The internet can serve as a tool for preventing and treating psychoactive substance use. In this context, online platforms available need to be of high quality. The aim of this study was to objectively assess the quality of websites on the prevention and treatment of psychoactive substance use consulted in Mexico.
Method: The study universe consisted of websites providing information about prevention and treatment of psychoactive substance use identified through search patterns of internet users in Mexico. Quality was assessed using the "Guide to Evaluate the Quality of Websites on the Internet." The quality of websites was compared by platform type and country of origin using ANOVA test.
Results: An evaluation of 81 websites showed that 86.6% had good quality, while 13.4% were rated as average. Statistically significant differences were found by country of origin; websites developed in the United States received higher scores.
Conclusion: Despite challenges in regulating information on the internet, a large number of reliable sources are available for obtaining information on the prevention and treatment of psychoactive substance use. However, there is a need to improve the quality of these websites, as none of the evaluated sites were rated as excellent. |
