| Sumario: | Emerging drugs are considered those used for their intended pharmaceutical use as well as medicinal plants or substances with psychoactive effects. Their consumption occurs mainly in adolescents and young people, who seek and access them essentially via the Internet. The objective of this work was to characterize the student population of a public university that consumes them; an analytical cross-sectional study was carried out in which the database derived from the study "Perception, risk and drug use in university students (Percibete2)" Among the main findings were the use of plants and fungi, as well as various drugs for medical use among university students, predominantly the use of the former in women and medications in men (p = 0.042); The presence of anxiety symptoms was dominant among pharmaceuticals users, there were no significant differences in academic performance, family functioning, self-esteem and symptoms of depression. The consumption of emerging drugs in students is present in the public university studied; calling attention to the higher consumption of non-prescription medical drugs in men in the area of health sciences; as well as the higher probability of consumption of plants and fungi in women and the students of the Economic-Administrative area. A situation that highlights the imperative need to perform specific interventions in vulnerable populations with an emphasis on mental health disorders, to avoid increasing the probability of consumption. |
