Sumario:AbstractIntroduction: Pneumonia is the inflammation of the lung parenchyma, caused by bacteria, virus, chemical agents and allergens. Older adults are prone to it, due to the reduction of respiratory function and changes in the respiratory system. Objective: To determine the characteristics of older adultswith pneumonia treated at theinternal medicine department of «Juana F Cabral» Geriatric Hospital in Corrientes capital, during the period of January / December 2016.Material and methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive study. The sample forthe collection of data was made up of 166 patients with a diagnosis of  pneumonia. A form containing the following variables was designed: sex, age, degree of nutritional status, tobacco consumption, atypical symptoms and mortality.Medical records were the unit of observation.Results: Regarding age, the average was 80.6 years old; in relation to the sex; it was more frequent in females, according to tobacco consumption it was observed that the (62%) smoked, 77% presented tachypnea, and mortality of older adults withpneumonia was high. Conclusions: The study showed that patients who had pneumonia were mainly female with an average age of 80.6 yearsold and normal nutritional status. It was also observed that tobacco consumption was frequent and mortality was high. In relation to atypical symptoms, tachypnea was the most frequent.
