description Abstract Background: Burnout syndrome is a prevalent condition among health workers and its consequences affect the person and the organization. Very few interventions have been assessed in this area. Objective: To assess the effectiveness of an intervention (4 sessions) to reduce Burnout syndrome symptoms and emotional distress in workers from a hospital. Method: Effectiveness of the intervention was assessed in a sample of workers from a hospital (n=170), using a quasi-experimental design, with an intervention group (n=84) and a control group (n=86), with pre and post intervention assessment. For assessment Maslach for Burnout Inventory (MBI) and Goldberg Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) were used. Scores obtained were compared among groups and within groups. Results: The intervention did not prove effective for the reduction of Burnout; however it reduced emotional distress significantly.

Results: The intervention did not prove effective for the reduction of Burnout; however it reduced emotional distress significantly. Fac.
