Sumario:In recent decades, Mar del Plata’s southern area and its peri-urban zone have been characterized by a strong territorial dynamic. We note that the increase of popular habitat and the development of private urbanizations, the enhancement of the maritime front through the privatization and concession of coastal public spaces, the requalification of areas considered strategic, in other aspects. The situations mentioned were made viable by urban policies that favored new forms of capital accumulation, through processes of dispossession and appropriation of urban capital gains (Harvey, 2004). The city stands as a strategic place for the capture of capital gains, but also for its resistance and visibility of its potential limits (Theodore et al., 2009), which are manifested in the emergence of urban conflicts (Melé, 2003). In this context, the aim of this report is to analyze the main urban transformations at Mar del Plata’s south area and its peri-urban zone from the study of emerging urban conflicts. For this, a typology is defined to characterize conflicts in terms of their social productivity (Melé, 2003; 2016) and link them with broader urban dynamics.
