Sumario:The document is the result of the investigation into the appropriation of the city by the inhabitants of the informal settlement Samanes del Cauca in Cali Colombia, an area that was built more than 30 years ago on the Cauca River flood protection dam, known as Jarillón de Cali . The settlement of the entire dam extends throughout the city and is diverse in its 26 kilometers long, where Samanes stands out as a rururban space that is characterized by the rural use of the land despite the fact that they are on the edge of the urban. The methodology was qualitative and incorporated mixed information sources such as sociodemographic databases, semi-structured interviews, participant observation and documentary review, which allow describing the characteristics of the territory, who inhabits it and the way in which an area has been built urban area in eastern Cali, which today is experiencing conflicts due to the resettlement of families.
