Sumario:One of the key factors in explaining land seizures and the expansion of informal settlements in Latin America in general, and in rentier societies in particular, is the way in which the formal real estate market works. Studying the case of the city of Comodoro Rivadavia (Patagonia Argentina) under a qualitative methodology based on semi-structured interviews conducted to the main agents of the real estate market, the work shows the singularities of this market that limit and condition access to urban land and housing by broad social groups; being a fundamental condition in the processes of taking of earth. Through this analysis, we examine the urban accumulation and growth model of a city whose economy revolves around hydrocarbon extraction.
