La Ley 26.579 modifica la mayoría de edad y unifica la mínima para contraer matrimonio a los dieciocho años. La nueva regulación legal ha desvirtuado el asentimiento de los representantes legales en forma independiente como requisito para que los menores de edad puedan contraer matrimonio, ya que se encuentra comprendido actualmente en el juicio de dispensa judicial, al haber desaparecido la categoría de los menores que, aun cuando contaban con la edad nupcial, no habían alcanzado la mayoría.
