This piece of oratory, so close to the political revolution and the first patriotic education reform in Cordoba, a work of a man formed in the colonial period, is an excellent testimony to see the impact of aforementioned events into the university corporation. In this paper we will focus on the justification of political change and fears produced by this change. Al iniciar el año académico de 1813 en la Universidad de Córdoba, el profesor de Instituta José Felipe Funes, sobrino del célebre deán, inauguró su cátedra pronunciando un extenso discurso. Esta pieza oratoria, tan cercana a la revolución política y a la primera reforma patria de la enseñanza cordobesa, obra de un hombre formado en el período colonial, representa un excelente testimonio para comprobar el modo en que los acontecimientos mencionados repercutieron y fueron asimilados dentro de la corporación universitaria. En este trabajo centraremos la atención en la justificación del cambio político y los temores que éste despertaba.
