This study aimed to evaluate the agronomic and productive response of sorghum to the application of three doses of compost. It was conducted during the spring-summer 2018 agricultural cycle, under rainfed conditions in the municipality of Villaflores, Chiapas, Mexico. The treatments were a control and three doses of compost (10, 20 and, 30 t/ha-1), incorporated into the soil before planting. Four experimental plots per treatment were established using a completely randomized design. The response variables were agronomic and productive, and they were evaluated using analysis of variance and a mean comparison test. Both the agronomic parameters (plant height, stem thickness and biomass fresh weight) and the productive parameters (grain weight and yield, panicle length and weight) were statistically superior in the 20 and 30 t/ha-1 compost treatments compared to the 10 t/ha-1 treatment and the control. En la región Frailesca de Chiapas, México, la producción de tipo convencional de sorgo (Sorghum bicolor) ha ocasionado la disminución de la fertilidad del suelo, al reducir su contenido de materia orgánica. Esto obliga a buscar alternativas para incrementar su rendimiento ya que es un cereal de importancia para la alimentación animal. El objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar la respuesta agronómica y productiva del sorgo a la aplicación de tres dosis de composta. Se realizó durante el ciclo agrícola primavera-verano 2018, bajo condiciones de temporal en el municipio de Villaflores, Chiapas, México. Los tratamientos fueron un testigo y tres dosis de composta (10, 20 y 30 t/ha-1), incorporados al suelo antes de siembra. Se establecieron cuatro parcelas experimentales por tratamiento con diseño experimental completamente al azar. Las variables de respuesta fueron agronómicas y de rendimiento del cultivo, se evaluaron por análisis de varianza y prueba de comparación de medias. Tanto los parámetros agronómicos (altura de planta, grosor de tallo y peso de biomasa fresca) como los productivos (peso y rendimiento del grano, longitud y peso de panoja) fueron superiores estadísticamente en los tratamientos de 20 y 30 t/ha-1 de composta con respecto al tratamiento de 10 t/ha-1 y al testigo.
