Main characters used for identification of plant fragments were cell walls, trichomes, stomates and cuticular ornamentation. Se describen e ilustran las estructuras de la epidermis foliar de 36 especies de plantas leñosas presentes en el Chaco occidental argentino (provincia de Salta), incluyendo una clave para la identificación de fragmentos de hojas encontrados en las heces y en el contenido estomacal y ruminal de animales. Los principales caracteres utilizados para la identificación fueron la pared de las células epidérmicas propiamente dichas, los tricomas, los estomas y la ornamentación de la cutícula.
