En el caso particular del área en estudio (zona central semiárida de la provincia de Córdoba), donde la mayor parte de los alfalfares presentan modulación,como primera aproximación y para franquear los problemas ecológicos de inadaptación o competencia de cepas introducidas, los cuales son difíciles de evaluar y por otra parte de modificar, se estudian las cualidades de las cepas autóctonas, se!eccionando entre las aisladas las de mayor capacidad de fijación de Nitrógeno en la simbiosis y su respuesta a distintas variedades de alfalfa.
