Sumario:Cooperation with external actors has become increasingly important for companies to develop an innovative process. Among the different agents with which the firms can cooperate, one of which has role of relevance are the universities. In this sense, the present study aims to identify the key characteristics of small and medium sized Argentina firms that use universities to carry out innovations. For this, the binomial logit model is used from the data base of the Encuesta Nacional de Dinámica de Empleo e Innovación (ENDEI) of Argentina. The results show that the absorptive capacity, the appropriability conditions, the knowledge spillovers received, the degree of engagement in activities of greater complexity and the technological intensity of the sector of performance are factors that positively affect the decision of the firm linking to the universities to cooperation.
