| Sumario: | This article explores the concept of language policy as social discourse in the migration context, analyzing its empirical manifestations and its role in shaping social practices. Considering the global migratory scenario, this study examines how the meanings of these policies navigate between discourses and social practices, sometimes facilitating and at other times hindering the integration of international migrants. The focus is on three critical areas: the school environment, the labor market, and migration legislation. Based on a bibliographical approach, the paper establishes a dialogue between Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and Cultural Semiotics, drawing upon the theoretical frameworks of Cristine Gorski Severo and Xoan Carlos Lagares (language policy), Norman Fairclough (discourse, practice, and social change), and Denis Bertrand (Cultural Semiotics). Preliminary results suggest complex and diverse relationships between discourses and practices, which can either broaden or restrict the use of languages as forms of identity, cultural expression, and civic engagement. These dynamics highlight the challenges and opportunities in integrating migrants, refugees, and stateless persons within the social, political, and cultural spheres of host countries, such as Brazil. |
