Sumario:The present article is a result of the doctoral thesis and proposes the discussion on the language policy proposed by Andrés Bello in his interventions on the Spanish language in Latin America, ranging from the production of linguistic knowledge to its implementation in the educational system. From concepts by Calvet (2002, 2010), it was possible to think about this language policy within the cultural and State policy for the post-independence period of the Latin American nations from Spain. We note the role in the construction of national states and the alignment of the intellectual project of the author with the general project of the State.
