Sumario:Drawing on the concepts of Language Ideologies and glotopolitcs, this paper discusses how the different languages are addressed in Brazilian Portuguese textbooks. The analyses were developed using a dialogic notion of agency, language and subjectivity. Therefore, analyses were made of discuss and textboxes that introduce the concept of language according to notice of the Brazil’s National Textbook Program. The presence of other languages (immigrant, indigenous, or Afro-Brazilian sacred languages, and Brazilian sign language) was expected. This study seeks to shed light on the residual effect of the myth of monolingualism that, in the present researcher’s point of view, may decrease linguistic diversity, which was virtually restricted to explanations about variation, herein considered as a metonymic representation of diversity.
