| Sumario: | The present final work deals with the preventive conservation of the active clinical histories of hospitalization in the period from 2010 to 2015 of the Medical Archive Department of the Hospital de Clínicas "José de San Martin", a Public University Hospital of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. A research methodology is proposed that examines preventive conservation and archival work.
A non-experimental design research is proposed, it presents a methodological scope and descriptive character. Its approach is quantitative, the statistical method is used for the analysis of the sample. A form of direct observations and interviews is made that allow knowing the state of preventive conservation. All the active clinical histories of hospitalization of the Medical File are determined as a population. Likewise, the sample is established in the period 2010-2015 in a non-probabilistic way for convenience as a unit of analysis. Being an infinite population, the sample is based on the formula of infinite universes, granted by Sierra Bravo (2001, p. 61).
The variables are described according to the deterioration factors: environmental, storage and handling. Within the data analysis, the result that had the most preponderance was the last factor of deterioration, that of manipulation, which allowed us to diagnose that the state of preventive conservation of medical records is not satisfactory. Consequently, unconscious or improper manipulation causes irreversible damage to the documents. Wrong handling helps the accumulation of fatty substances. Fats tend to oxidize and darken with age, giving way to the increase of microorganisms. The damage done to the documents is cumulative. (Enrique & Alfonso, 2017, p.35).
The purpose of this work is to try to establish, in the institutional sphere, preventive conservation measures for the documents of active medical records of hospitalization with healthcare, academic, historical and legal value, considered as a source of information for future medical research. As well as to analyze the state of conservation of the same, given the vulnerability and exposure to the different factors of deterioration such as environmental, storage and handling.
