| Sumario: | This paper presents a look over through the evolution of the archival science purpose, based on the works of the authors who have formulated a concept of the discipline, from 1895 until today. For the study of these concepts, three categories of analysis were defined: nature, characteristics and purpose. For the purpose, category on which this paper focuses, a notable influence of different thinking trends was evidenced, from positivist tendencies, through systems theory, management principles, to postmodern ideas, which are manifested in the uses of archives, the interaction of the user with the archive management professional and the other subjects that take place in the documents production and use contexts. The results of the study show that it is not possible to define an archival science purpose outside of the currents of thinking that guided the works of the authors studied and each of them provides elements to undertake the construction of a purpose proposal that is in keeping with current realities.
Keywords: Archival science; archivology; archival purpose; disciplinary basis; archival theory; uses of archives; users of archives. |
