| Sumario: | In recent years, different studies that make up the field of recent history in Argentina have revealed that the dictatorial regime established in 1976 was not sustained exclusively by appealing to repressive mechanisms, but rather made use of different interventions to obtain consensus. To do this, through monuments, sculptures, tributes and commemorations, the dictatorial government sought to consolidate a narrative of the past that would reposition the Armed Forces as a leading actor of development and civilization.
Those commemorative events where both national symbols and various uses of the past acquired relevance, allow us to see some social attitudes in small communities during the last dictatorship. Both the Armed Forces, the Church and related organizations participated actively together with provincial and municipal authorities in the deployment of the so-called “civic actions” in the most remote areas of the provincial interior, these events being the special occasion to register certain brands in the territory. , making use of a past considered heroic. From the local perspective, our study focuses both on the city of Comodoro Rivadavia and on the towns in the southwest of the province of Chubut, where it is possible to analyze that propositional dimension of the dictatorship to stimulate acceptance of the regime. |
