Kuhn's perspective gives a central role to perception in the chemical revolution and postulates a high degree of discontinuity between the experimental procedures associated with the discovery of oxygen and those developed by phlogiston chemists. In opposition to this, I will seek to show that perception did not play a relevant role in the Priestley-Lavoisier debate, and that there is a significant degree of continuity between chemical practices before and after the discovery of oxygen. Mi propósito es defender que la noción de cambio perceptual empleada por Thomas Kuhn para explicar el cambio científico no resulta eficaz en el caso del descubrimiento del oxígeno. La perspectiva de Kuhn asigna un rol central a la percepción en la revolución química y postula un alto grado de discontinuidad entre los procedimientos experimentales asociados al descubrimiento del oxígeno y los que desarrollaban los químicos del flogisto. En oposición a esto, buscaré mostrar que la percepción no jugó un papel relevante en el debate Priestley-Lavoisier, y que existe un grado significativo de continuidad entre las prácticas químicas previas y posteriores al descubrimiento del oxígeno.
