This institution was established to educate the children of chiefs and was a key initiative in the regional evangelization process. The Jesuits understood that their mission was not limited only to founding schools and teaching classes, but also involved adapting to the needs of indigenous communities. This included preaching in the indigenous language and linguistically enriching their catechisms in order to facilitate the understanding and assimilation of Christian values. The creation of the school was the result of the joint efforts of the Corana and the Catholic Church. En 1700 se fundó el Real Colegio de Naturales en Chillán por Real Cédula de 1697, siendo regentado por los jesuitas. Esta institución se estableció con el objetivo de educar a los hijos de caciques y fue una iniciativa clave en el proceso de evangelización regional. Los jesuitas comprendieron que su misión no se limitaba solo a la fundación de colegios y la impartición de clases, sino que también implicaba adaptarse a las necesidades de las comunidades indígenas. Esto incluyó predicar en legua indígena y enriquecer lingüísticamente sus catecismos con el fin de facilitar la comprensión y la asimilación de los valores cristianos. La creación del colegio fue resultado de los esfuerzos conjuntos de la Corona y de la Iglesia Católica.
