The Historia was finally printed in Liège in 1673. Throughout his life, Nicolás del Techo wrote at times texts, including the Historia of letters, and at times inspired people to write biographies. All these documents, now preserved in several European and Latin American countries, allow us to retrace the thread of his intercontinental life and to situate the writing of the Historia in Paraguay between 1658 and 1673. The aim of this paper is to understand why and how del Techo, a field man, became a man of letters in a specific environment surrounded by the reductions. Nicolás del Techo deja definitivamente Europa en 1640 para llegar a Paraguay, donde será misionero hasta su muerte, en 1685. En esa nueva tierra, escribe una historia de la provincia jesuítica del Paraguay, la cual es la más antigua que poseemos. La “Historia Provinciae Paraquariae Societatis Iesu” se imprimirá por fin en Lieja, en 1673. A lo largo de su vida, Nicolás del Techo escribió a veces textos como la Historia o cartas, y otras veces se dedicó a la escritura de biografías. Todos esos documentos, hoy en día conservados en varios países de Europa y Sudamérica, permiten trazar el hilo de su vida intercontinental y de ubicar la redacción de la Historia, en Paraguay, entre 1658 y 1673. El objetivo de este artículo será entonces estudiar por qué y cómo del Techo, hombre de campo, se convirtió en un hombre de letras en un entorno particular, el de las reducciones.
