To this end, there will be a reference to the the history of both regions, a study of the impact of nationalism and separatism since the 1960s —detailing the constitutional crises in Canada and the Troubles in Northern Ireland—, and an assessment of contemporary political developments to determine whether separation is a possibility in the near future. En el presente artículo, se propone analizar la presencia de movimientos separatistas en Quebec y en Irlanda del Norte a la luz del concepto de regionalismo propuesto por Ralph Krueger y el de nacionalismo planteado por Garth Stevenson. A tal fin, se estudiará la historia de ambas regiones, se examinará el impacto del nacionalismo y el separatismo desde la década de 1960, detallando las crisis constitucionales en Canadá y los conflictos en Irlanda del Norte (los Troubles), y se evaluarán los desarrollos políticos contemporáneos para determinar si una futura separación es posible.
