The main hypothesis explored is that this situation has to do with the strong experimental impetus that digital literature has entailed since its first appearances in mid- 20th century, an impetus kept to the present. This experimentalism, not without some problems, such as the possible reproduction of the “great divide” between high and lowbrow culture, already contested since the sixties, also opens great potentialities to build disruptive ways of cognitive and perceptual experience within hegemonic digital culture, understand as an “algorithmic culture”. To test the hypothesis, the paper examines some encounters and (dis) encounters between two different practices within online digital culture that turn to appropriationism as an artistic device. On one hand, digital literature associated to conceptual and un-creative writing and, on the other hand, literary fancfiction which, even if could only be digitized literature –not strictly digital– it owns its exponential growth to virtual communities and social networks since the development of the Web 2.0.

On one hand, digital literature associated to conceptual and un-creative writing and, on the other hand, literary fancfiction which, even if could only be digitized literature –not strictly digital– it owns its exponential growth to virtual communities and social networks since the development of the Web 2.0.   Ante la evidencia de la diseminación de las culturas digitales en el mundo glocalizado contemporáneo, culturas que han calado hondo en la vida cotidiana de una porción importante de la población del planeta –incluso en relación con hábitos de lectura y escritura–, el artículo se interroga acerca de la relativa invisibilidad de la literatura digital para esa misma población. Se propone como hipótesis central que esto se debe a la impronta experimental que la literatura digital ha tenido desde sus inicios a mediados del siglo XX y que en gran medida se mantiene hasta la actualidad. Ese experimentalismo, si bien no exento de problemas –como la posible reproducción  de la “gran división” entre lo alto y lo bajo en la cultura, que al menos desde los años sesenta del siglo XX se había puesto en cuestión–, de todos modos abre grandes potencialidades para dar lugar a nuevas variedades de mundo, esto es, nuevas experiencias cognitivas y sensoriales que habilitan la construcción de sentidos alternativos respecto de los sentidos hegemónicos propios de las culturas digitales contemporáneas, que pueden ser conceptualizadas bajo la noción de “cultura algorítmica”. Para poner a prueba esa hipótesis, se analizan los encuentros y desencuentros entre dos prácticas contemporáneas de la cultura digital en red que, aunque distantes entre sí, apelan al apropiacionismo como recurso constitutivo: por un lado, literatura digital que se vincula con experimentaciones digitales de escritura “no-creativa” y “conceptual” y, por otro, el fenómeno masivo de la fanfiction literaria que, si bien podría ser casi no más que literatura digitalizada –y no digital–, al mismo tiempo, en sus versiones actuales es deudora de la cultura digital en cuanto a su vinculación con comunidades virtuales potenciadas a partir del desarrollo de la Web 2.0 en adelante.     Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades.
